Snow Session failure! | Dana Marshall Photography

I am always asked how I get my kids to cooperate for me when it’s picture time. I continuously tell everyone it’s not always easy. My daughter Sydney is usually pretty good if it involves dressing up and allowing her to use a tad bit of lip gloss but my son Blake??? Not so much.  On a rare occasion Blake won’t battle me much, or maybe the stars will align and I will get a genuine smile from both of them at the same time!  However most of the time it is all about photoshop, head swaps and MAJOR bribery.

We recently had a snow storm and I really really really wanted to get shots of the kids together outside. The last time we did this was 2 years ago and I fell in love with shooting in the snow.  All it took then was a couple packages of smarties and our session was done in 15 minutes flat.  This time, we struggled…oh boy did we struggle!  At first Sydney was pretty good. She got her lip gloss on and even with the crazy winds and wet snow in her face she gave me smiles.  I decided against bringing Blake out at that time as I knew it would probably age me 20 years, so I figured I would get the both of them later when the storm slowed down. That evening we had the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen. Pinks, purples, and orange skies, it was stunning!  I was desperate to get a decent photo of my kids with this sunset.  I got Blake out of his spiderman jammies which he was in all day, tossed on a sweater and pants and Syd dressed herself insisting on a peach tutu. We stepped outside onto the deck, I was hoping I could get them over by the trees. We made it about 3 feet out the door and all sanity was lost. Meltdowns galore!! Crying and whining from Blake, and Sydney chomping on her gum with an attitude like she was 15. Not the quick session I was hoping for 🙁

Here are a few shots for your viewing pleasure, this is what I call a  snow session failure. I tried desperately to get a great shot of the kids together and it just didn’t happen.  Oh well, we will have to try again next time we get snow!
